Book review writing help

What can be taken into account when evaluating and analyzing a work:

The overall impression of the book is one-piece, fragmented, powerful, weak, pleasant, pathetic.

The plot – how logical it is reduced, are there any moments that do not work on it, do not the lines hang? The narrative is dynamic, unhurried, protracted, driven, torn. How much dynamics of the narrative corresponds to the genre and tasks set in the book? Is the author trying to “steer the plot,” bending the logic of events in favor of the plan?

Heroes – how detailed and authentic they are, is their psychology natural enough, could they do just that under the given circumstances? Are these heroes sympathetic to the reader, do they empathize or disgust?

Language and style – in the context of the task.

Reliability in general and in detail. Are the laws of nature and science violated in the book, did they wear such uniforms at the appointed time, did they say in French in the salons, is the text of the prayer sounded right? I always give an example from my own story, to which I was solemnly poked at the seminar by Oldie – the hero was standing guard in the rain and his hooks were soaked with shoes. Hooks. Metal. Wet.

Phantom – what exactly is, how well it is designed and how necessary? Is it possible, without prejudice to the book, to remove princesses with dragons or stars?

Psychology of relationships – do the characters have internal motivations for actions and whether they are sufficient, do they behave in a variety of ways or rigidly follow standard reactions, is not there any feeling behind the backs of the puppet heroes of the hard hand of the author-puppeteer?

The main idea of the text – is it ethical, clever, original? What does the book teach the reader that he wants to tell him?

Display – did the author succeed in translating his plan into an explicit form, does the reader see the cave of dragons or the felling of a spacecraft? Is it possible to isolate the author’s idea from his text from the first reading?

How to write an essay

The essay should contain not the transfer of events, but specifically the author’s opinion about a particular inquiry, theme. A man who composes an essay ought to highlight a certain problem that he will consider and cover in his work.

You do not need to try to cover all the problems of the chosen topic. On the contrary, it is necessary to focus on one precise of a concrete problem. The author also chooses the style of the essay by himself Before composing, make certain to consider what measure your creation will be. It matters for how to draw an essay. It depends to a certain extent of the problem. You will also need to decide on the topic if, of course, the professor has not given you anything specific.

If you have the right to choose, then, of course, you should center around an issue that you have examined. You ought to have involvement in it. Even if you understand the topic, the study of additional literature will be inevitable, so you can make conclusion about the work of different authors.

Do not forget to formulate your own particular perspective. After all, it is the basis of the essay. Write an essay in accordance with the plan. The choice of those topics which essence you do not understand.

The lack of a structure in the presentation of opinions.

The presence of large arguments, which as a result do not answer the question posed in the essay.

Inefficient use of information and excessive generalization.

The prevalence of the narrative part of the essay over the given analytical material, which does not support your main point.

Citing the views of various authors without specific references to them.

Main points of writing diploma

To write a diploma, most professions need to study the contribution of other researchers to the problem in question. Simply put, you need to live in books and scientific journals (however, now much of the information can be obtained in electronic form, which somewhat reduces the height of the barricades from books and photocopies on the desk).

Besides, having got acquainted with the list of literature, the teacher can already at this stage render serious help: to advise still some important materials or to delete superfluous. The draft list of literature can be expanded

Following the specialty, the list of books includes from several dozens to several hundred titles. Usually everybody tell you go and use least of library catalogs in strick oder. But! I know how to help you make the process of finding literature for the diploma work a little bit easier. These will help to find materials that facilitate the writing of the diploma.

As a support, take a list of literature on the theme of your coursework (if they coincide on the issues with the diploma research, which often happens).

Lifehack: foreign diplomas will supply you with lists of suitable literature (already choosed from the boiling knowledge ocean). This, perhaps, is the rare case that the banks of abstracts will be useful. The plus of this method is that you can find the names of suitable articles without burying in the filings of scientific journals. Pay special attention exept of the list of books (their students and graduate students like to pop everything more or less related to the topic, anymore), but on links. You will even have numbers on page in articles and monographs, from which you can get the right material.

Look at the lists of recommended literature on your topic in reference books, textbooks. As the topic of your work is usually narrow, it is unnecessary to count on a big catch, but some literature, especially of a general nature, can be found. At you, at least, the center of the bibliographic spiral will be formed, which can be open one by one.

All the same applies to articles, monographs on your topic. Again, pay a lot attention to references, since lists of literature, especially in books, are very extensive. In that and minus – bibliographies are multi-page, they have many books that you do not need.

The most common problems in scientsfic work

You shoveled a ton of scientific books, spent few weeks, or months to collect materials, day and night sitting over the theoretical part of your diploma. But you can’t end your diploma because you master sand back each time when seeing you. But why?

Mistake 1. Bad answering certain questions.

One of the reasons is lack of material: the head turns out to be small, the volume has to be pulled and poured. The problem can be solved by collecting some more materials or correcting the topic. Another thing that may be strange of the need to bring up certain aspects of the topic under study. It is easier to deal with this problem since the teacher will indicate the mistake by returning the diploma for revision.

Mistake 2. Use of 2 – 3 scientific sources of information

For a diploma, this is very little. Even if you learned the material from them, it needs to be more incomes of your information from 10 to 20 other sources.

Mistake 3. Abuse of quotes.

What is the difference between a diploma and a course essay? A high degree of independent reflection on the problem. If you just “stitch” pieces of other people’s texts, you do not get a diploma.

By the way, this mistake is often made by students who are very interested in the topic. And want to put into the diploma as much information as they can on the theme. Do not do this

Mistake 4. Deviation from the main line.

Oh, your first time started writing about the topic, then you got caught in some aspect of the problem and took the line to the side. This mistake you can see quite often in science-focused students who try to take everything and explain but you have too much information. How to solve a problem? Work out the structure of the thesis and rely on the plan, not allowing yourself to deviate from it.

Mistake 5. Lack of logic in the presentation.

First about one thing, then about another. This is the extreme version of error number 4. There is no general line at all. The theoretical chapter looks like a dump where valuable things meet, but the reigning chaos turns everything you put in the picture but you are not a painter!

I wrote all these mistakes in joes but try to believe me. These mistakes make almost every second student. Be calm and concentrate your attention on this

Tips in writing abstract

However, there is nothing complicated in the rules of writing an abstract. Problems usually arise in freshmen, who simply do not yet know how to properly prepare the abstract (because they were too lazy to find out before surrendering). But this article will help those who did not take the methodology on the chair and thought about the design the night before the delivery of the work – agree, the prevalent situation!

In many universities and even more so in schools, the design of abstracts is less rigorous, allowing for small deviations from the strict standard of GOST. Some departments have their own rules concerning the design of works, especially the title pages (so, in addition to studying the general rules described below, we recommend still taking the manual on the chair, sometimes special requirements are invented by teachers

How correctly to draw an abstract?

-Use Times New Roman

Fields: 1.5 cm for the top, 3 cm for the bottom, 1.5 cm for the right and 2.5 cm for the left (1 cm – stock for the sheet filing). Increasing margins are sometimes used by students to increase the number of sheets

The text is printed on only one side of the sheet. The reverse must remain clean. By the way, a common mistake among beginners, often writing on both sides, as in a notebook.

The orientation of the sheet is the book. A landscape is sometimes allowed in the design of applications (for example, wide tables).

The title page consists of the following parts:

  • A cap with the full name of an educational institution (university, college, school, etc.), the name of the faculty and department.
  • The name of the work and the indication of the discipline. Formatting in the center.

Sometimes the name is indicated simply, without quotes

-The final block with information about the city in which the institution is located, and the year of writing the work. Located at the very bottom of the page, formatting in the center.

-The main part of the essay is divided (with rare exceptions) into chapters. Sometimes within the chapters are allocated paragraphs (or paragraphs).

-Chapters begin with a new sheet. Sometimes a new sheet begins and paragraphs (this point specified in the manual).

-An unspoken rule: the final part of the chapter should occupy at least a quarter of the sheet. In cunning students, inflating the volume, the ends of the chapters “hang” in a few lines on an almost blank sheet, which causes great irritation among the teachers: they feel that they are, as it were, so to speak … considered fools.
